I had quite a lot of problems with my bottom teeth and I went to the dentist and he suggested that I look into implants. He recommended Dr. McLaughlin.
I had to give up a lot of food that I really enjoyed because of my teeth. It was painful and I could never, and didn’t want to, eat because it would have been too obvious.
Well when Dr. McLaughlin and I first discussed it we went through a few options and instead of going for a few implants and having them snapped on to another procedure, I decided and he decided that we would have five implants, that they would be permanent and that they would be screwed in. And it was great, it really was.
When people have talked to me about this and they ask me how I felt about it I say it was really great and I would recommend Dr. McLaughlin because the whole procedure was great.

Things weren’t too bad with my teeth until they started to get loose and then I knew I would have to have something done and the teeth were getting rotten and I would have to have some of them pulled. There was no sense in having new teeth through a partial because I mean I couldn’t eat, I couldn’t bite down really on much of anything.
My dentist suggested to put the implants in and referred me to Dr. McLaughlin.
After talking with Dr. McLaughlin we decided to have two implants but then as he did the two he realized I would have to have a third one. And it would fit the plate better with three rather than two so we went ahead and did three implants instead of two.
Once I got the teeth I got used to it after a few adjustments and I could eat anything, I could chew steak, chew nuts, corn on the cob which is my favorite. I just felt great.
Now I feel free to smile, to show my teeth. I’m not afraid, I’m not afraid they’re going to fall out on me. So I enjoy going everywhere and doing things and I’m quite happy with retirement and enjoying life.
Would I recommend Dr. McLaughlin to anyone else to have this done? Yes!

I met Dr. Brendan McLaughlin because I was referred by a friend who was thrilled with the work that he did for her. And I had not many options left, I had four bridges that had been installed almost thirty years ago and one was breaking down to the point where not only the bridge itself was loose but the teeth to which it was attached. I had seen several dentists in my lifetime and some of them were good and some of them were not that good. And by good I mean they didn’t seem to have suggestions for options for me. One option was to have all of my teeth pulled and replaced with dentures and that was not acceptable to me. So when my friend mentioned Dr. Brendan and I saw the wonderful work that he did for her I came to see him.
Right from our initial meeting what impressed me was his level of confidence, that he didn’t have a problem with telling me what he could do for me. I had great fear, many people who go to dentists have great fear and I had had that since I was a teenager, but because of his confidence and his calm, gentle approach I began to feel more confident. That’s very important for patients to have with any doctor, is confidence in the doctor’s skill.
Some of my friends of a certain age have begun to experience some tooth loss, some bone loss, the necessity for some additional work to be done. I have the same friends as my friend Jane and we both have recommended to several people that they see Dr. Brendan for an assessment and an evaluation.
While we were seeing each other for these last two years we actually did get to tease each other and joke and have some laughs. When you’re in the dentist’s chair you’re a pretty captive audience and it’s really important to laugh at the dentist’s jokes if you can. When you cannot answer questions you can indicate somehow that you appreciate his sense of humor and all this is done with his excellent skill to work, to make a patient feel more comfortable and at ease and all of it works. It worked for me.

Before I had the implants done I was very insecure when I’d go out to dinner, even when I was entertaining guests because I had to, on several occasions, excuse myself to go put some adhesive in my denture plate.
I am fed up with these adhesives; I was really fed up with the adhesives so I said I’ve got to do something.
I was a little afraid but after talking with Dr. McLaughlin he assured me that it wasn’t going to be as painful as I had imagined, because I had gone through several root canals and tooth fillings and I just had had enough. I was just at a point where I had said I would just settle just having dentures in and dealing with the adhesive. But he explained to me that the surgery wouldn’t be as painful, which it wasn’t, as I had imagined and it wouldn’t take as long and my recovery time would not be what I had imagined. With confidence in him I decided I would go ahead and follow the procedure and have the work done and I’m happy that I did, very happy that I did.
If I had not gone through the procedure I would still be walking around, hiding my face, excusing myself every hour or two, picking easy stuff that I didn’t want to eat, walking past the nuts, walking past the trail mix which I love. But I can eat it now. I’m one hundred percent now.

When I came to Dr. McLaughlin I was very uncomfortable. I was very self conscious of speaking, smiling and even eating out in public.
I’d have to Fixodent my top partial and try to match up the two pieces that were broken. I went out and tried to make it look in line and most people would say what’s wrong with your mouth, at one point they thought I’d had a stroke.
So when I came to Dr. McLaughlin I had this broken partial and was in desperate need of someone helping me look halfway decent, feel more confident and be able to smile again.
I talked to Dr. McLaughlin and of course he did give me two options. He told me I could either do it just with the plain upper and just replacing the lower but he didn’t feel that was going to be comfortable with me. And then we discussed the more permanent solution. At first I was hesitant because I didn’t know how much involvement it took but I found him very comfortable to be with and his approach to doing his work is very, very comfortable because he lets you know exactly what he’s doing, when he’s doing it. Fortunately there’s no real pain. I was never suffering for days or weeks or anything like that and he appreciated that I did not want to be without any teeth in my mouth so he honored that a lot.
Believe it or not I can eat corn on the cob, I can chew a piece of steak. My bite is just so much better.
Now I can bite things, taste things and just like I say feel really confident when I’m out in a restaurant, when I’m talking to people. They’ve just changed my whole personality and my life because now I feel much better to appear in public.
Everyone tells me these look real natural and I look in the mirror and I feel very good about them and I’m happy I did what I did.
I have highly recommended Dr. McLaughlin to a lot of people. He’s well known through the area already.

So the beginning of my teeth problem began about 1972, I was about 12 years old and I was riding my bicycle and went over the handlebars knocking out one of my front teeth. Back then in dentistry, the dentist tried to stick the tooth back in and like use the glue to hold that tooth in by gluing two teeth together, but that didn't work out.
Then at the time I got in another little bit of an accident, jet skiing in Aruba which cracked another tooth, which was the main tooth carrying my other tooth and my dentist suggested that maybe I might want to go for the modern technology of implants.
Dr. McLaughlin, when I came in, he told me every step that I'd be going through with the procedure and he actually gave me a prescription that day to have filled before the surgery started. The paperwork he gave me let me read and absorb everything that was going to happen during the surgery and after the surgery, so he did a nice job explaining to me what was going to happen. I said to myself, ‘I think I'm going to be in a lot of pain later on' and I was really shocked that there was no pain.
After I had my implants put in place there's no movement, they feel really strong like I could probably bite through a piece of metal! I feel now like when I go out to eat or if I'm at a cook out that I don't really have to worry about what I'm going to bite in to; apples or corn on the cob.
When given the option of either going with a root canal or an implant I wouldn't hesitate to go directly to the implant. Being happy with the first procedure, it's the way to go for me with my teeth.
From being 11 years old and always having to hide my teeth because of what happened in the bike accident, to now being able to smile and people actually noticing my teeth is pretty nice.

I was very fearful of having the dental work done. The accident that caused the damage to the two front teeth was very traumatic. Meeting with other dentists, Dr. McLaughlin was the only one who could really show me the before and after work that he had done that was very impressive. I was very relaxed in speaking with him and he put me very much at ease and I believe that the resources that he had to show me were a big part of that, you know just feeling that confidence that this work that I was about to undergo, which was going to be very expensive, was going to be handled with perfection and very close attention to detail.
My main objective, my ultimate goal, was to be able to bite into an apple and just, you know, feel confident, because for years it was always cut my food and put it into my mouth and I wasn't free to enjoy a lot of things that I was missing out on. I really wanted to get back to normal.
I'm just really thrilled, very happy with the results, feel like I can smile. I feel as though I have my own teeth, there's just not a better feeling than the implants right now and I'm eating apples and corn on the cob. I'm just enjoying it very much.
I would highly recommend Dr. McLaughlin to anyone who has been suffering just with their emotions over a trauma to the mouth or any problem that they had with either with their gums, their teeth, just for any reason to see him. I would highly recommend him, he's the best.

I came to Dr. McLaughlin after looking all over for a dentist that could fix my top teeth. I had a plate with one dentist which was the last dentist I had before I came here. And for some unknown reason he took the plate out and told me that I would have to have another plate and I really didn't need one. He told me that he would make me another plate if I paid him $400 which I didn't understand. So I was looking for somebody at that time to really help me and Dr. McLaughlin was the dentist that really saved my life.
Dr. McLaughlin was very, very gentle and he's the one that did the work, and he did a very, very good job and I'm very happy, very happy. I just love my new teeth because I can chew better, I can smile, I don't gag, I can taste my food. I love to smile now because I know it looks good and the thing is that I don't have to worry about them, I don't have to worry about anything. That's the way I feel.
I've been to several dentists and I had a lot of confidence in each one that I went to but nobody seemed to do the right thing, they had a reason for this, they had a reason for that, receded gums, and I spent a lot of money just trying to find something that would give me my smile back. And when Dr. McLaughlin came I had so much confidence in him I was hoping that everything would go good and go right and he did the right thing, he gave me my smile back and I think that he's been a God send to this area.

Well my teeth, of course I've had them for 70 years or whatever it is, but I was losing my teeth left and right so I didn't have a full set of teeth. Anyways I wound up here at Dr. McLaughlin's who I heard of, his father was here, my wife went to his father, and after I talked to him he kind of convinced me that implants was the way to go. And that's just what I did, I kept all my appointments and had 4 implants done and I'm well satisfied with the job and everything else that went along with it.
The way he did it is he left the front teeth in until the healing process was over and then when he installed the denture he pulled those teeth out, he extracted them, and it worked out real good so I could still chew food and everything else up until I got my other ones and then I just went to them. They hang in there pretty good so you can bite a hard apple and not worry about your denture.
He was very mild to deal with and I didn't go through very much pain, I'm just well satisfied. When you get a full set of teeth in your mouth and they're attractive you smile more and it makes you feel better.
I have a lot of trust in Dr. McLaughlin and that's why I recommended my wife go and she's been through so many other dentists that I thought that he would be the man to get the job done.
‘I'm very grateful for this tremendous dentist, I'll tell you, I tell people all about him and in their future they're going to be going there. The booklets he has in his office are fantastic so my children, one by one when they need him, they'll be there. I recommend him to anybody, fantastic doctor. Uno, number one!'

As a pathologist in the medical profession I'm aware of chronic infections that could cause systemic problems like teeth infections. The dental implant has resolved the problem for me and prevents possible complications like cardiovascular problems in the future. My implant has definitely terminated my concern for long-term infection in my oral cavity.
My implant has progressed to a point that in expert hands like Dr. McLaughlin's it can be very satisfactory in place of dentures. He has persuaded me to do implants which I have done about a year and a half ago. Since then I have been very happy with what I have. It has been functioning very well for me and I can eat regularly including chewing into apples, so it has been a good thing for me to decide on the implants.
Dr. McLaughlin is a superb dentist and he cares a lot about the success. In that way he can help you to be confident in undertaking this implant, he is a superb dentist in that regard.
I would recommend this to anyone who has had trouble with maintaining either a denture or their teeth.
James
I never went to see the dentist for years because of all the bad experiences I had as a child and in the military, every time I went to the dentist they put me in a lot of pain so that shied me away from seeing a dentist for years.
I couldn't eat corn or steak or anything hard. They'd shake sometimes, I'd wake up in the night and at one time one of my teeth actually fell out of its socket while I was sleeping.
From the first time I went to see Dr. McLaughlin he was very professional, he was very easy to talk to, he would always call me after any procedure I had and check on my condition, how I was doing, if I had any complaints. He was just a regular guy you could talk to.
When I went to the office for the day of my implants I came in with a denture, I left with a full set of teeth and a few hours after leaving the office I was able to eat a large Italian Grinder which I hadn't had in quite a while.
Being a police officer for thirty years, it's very important to me to have a good pre de cour when I talk to the public. I'm constantly dealing with people and you have to look professional at all times and I feel this has helped me a lot. If anyone is thinking about getting these implants I would say it's the best investment they could ever make. I came in with a dental plate and it was always moving on me or trying to fall down or whatever. Now that I have these I can eat anything I want and it just made life a lot easier.

I went to different places and they did dentures and they didn't fit right, one place remade them and they still didn't fit right. They told me they were what they were and you know, people wear dentures and normally don't have problems but for some reason I always did. And I know a lot of other people that have.
I really wasn't happy with just going and having dentures done. I then finally had somebody tell me to see somebody that specializes in it, you know, can look at your mouth and see if your mouth needs some work or something to help it. And here I am, one appointment and my old dentures fit better than they ever did before and those weren't even perfect yet, and now with these you guys created something that I feel like I'm me again.
I can eat again, you guys worked with me, you were patient, you were kind, you cared, you listened to every little thing that bothered me, as much as a line or a facial feature or whatever, on top of wanting to eat and smile and talk and not spit and laugh and chew food again. And I got that, I got above my expectations, I really did. I would recommend anybody to come here and have the extensive work done because it's your whole life ahead of you. I lost 12 years by not doing this 12 years ago and meeting you guys then.
With the implants and the lower denture I don't have pain on the bite, they're very comfortable, they feel actually like my own teeth, they don't move, I'm not self conscious of them anymore, they're the greatest thing, I really feel like I have my own lower teeth. I could never keep them in, they were always moving, I had to keep gluing them, I'd run to the ladies room 2 hours later and re-glue them so they wouldn't fall out. You know you're in meetings and you're talking to people and you've got loose teeth or you're worried that the glue is showing or whatever, I mean I really had a hard time with my lower denture. And now I don't even know I have a lower denture in my mouth with implants holding them on. It was only three, one visit, the implants were in. After that I had a couple of little processes of making the dentures and I'm golden, I'm good to go. I'd recommend it to the world; don't deal with unfitted dentures, it's not worth it; it's your whole life.
I know these are going to last a lifetime so I won't be back but I do hope somebody else comes and experiences the good stuff I did.
David
I've had a number of root canals performed on me and as 2 or 3 years progressed we found out they were failing and then the infections got worse and he recommended me to come see Dr. McLaughlin to really remove all the teeth and install the implants. As a result everything came up real great, I had a lot of compliments on the work he performed and as of this date which is what, three years later, I have no problems and everything's working out well.
When I visited Dr. McLaughlin we made a decision to completely remove all the upper teeth and remove 3 teeth from the lower part of my mouth. He made the upper teeth look like they were brand new, and also the lower teeth. I would recommend this procedure to anyone that has this problem.
The day the implants were inserted was painless, was done in a timely fashion, within probably an hour, an hour and a half. I walked out of here with 8 brand new teeth and three of them in the lower part. Virtually I was at a wedding the following day, everybody commented how nice my teeth looked and I was able to eat food in a normal fashion. Everything worked out well.
When I originally had my teeth removed I had to wear a denture for a period of time and it was very uncomfortable, it was very annoying, and by having these implants done it's like being a new person again. You have false teeth it's like having a suitcase in your mouth.
Clair
You probably wonder why a 92, 91 when it was done, year old woman would even consider implants. Well it all depends on what kind of person you are whether you should consider them. Now say you're walking along the street and someone you know is approaching you and she says, ‘Oh Matilda, you poor thing, you're having a bad day with your arthritis, I can tell just by the look on your face,' and you say, ‘Yes, I am, I'm so discouraged and I'm only 75 years old and I suffer a great deal.' Well, maybe you shouldn't have an implant because you're the kind of person who will probably have a full set of false teeth and you won't mind that at all, except that you can complain about those too. And you might really give it some thought; your personality is kind of contradictory here.
On the other hand, if you're walking down the street and you see a friend approaching and she says, ‘Oh Clementine, you look great! How are you feeling?' ‘Fine,' ‘Oh I'm glad to hear that, say, there's a good movie playing I hear that the gal who plays the cook, Julia Child, does a really great job, what do you say we go next week? I'll call you; we'll take in a matinee.' ‘That'd be wonderful, goodbye.' Then you're a good candidate, because your attitude on life is that life is to be lived and life is to be lived as comfortably as you can have it.
Now how do implants contribute to that? Well one you can chew which is very important for your wellbeing, two the shape of your face changes by having something to hold up your cheeks and you are a better balanced person, you don't have to worry about dentures, horrible word, and you know these things are in and they're going to stay there. You're comfortable with them. So I think it's a good reason, if you like life, if you're happy with life, have it done, it's worth every penny.
